Checking on the tosai

lorivertin

All the tosai purchased almost six months ago have grown a great deal. I’m always interested in seeing how the koi change. Just because a koi looks attractive at 5 inches doesn’t mean it will keep it’s good looks as it grows. Here are some photos of the koi in early March and this week.

Sumiko looks pretty much the same as she did a few weeks ago, just bigger. I also feel she looks a little more yellowish. Maybe the food’s color element is creating the tinge…
The goshikis have really paled out. The color loss may be du to the water temperature or water hardness. Maybe when they are older they will keep their color throughout the summer.
Blackhawk has faded a bit and is another one of the koi that seems on the small side. Squamish, the platinum ogon, is on the high strung side and can always be counted on to be swimming around like a maniac for no reason. Squamish’s crazy swimming will often get the rest of them going….
Poor Woody didn’t make it (possible poisoning incident). The other two kohaku are continuing to grow and their patterns have changed very little.
Jamaica looks like she is getting a little more white and there is color entering the fins. I’m not sure that’s a desirable trait.
The showas are looking good. Slash is on the small side though. Came in small and remains tinier than the rest. Maybe he can’t muscle his way in with all the piggies.
Aramis has faded a great deal. I wouldn’t be surprised if the color never returns 🙁 . D’artagnon’s head sumi seems to be receding as well. Paco looks pretty much the same.
JoJo and Phoebe have gotten a little paler and I still mix up the two all of the time. JoJo might be renamed Magoo because this koi often acts as if it’s blind. It can often be found alone and seems surprised when he/she finds the rest of the koi. Continues to eat well since it’s as large as most of the other koi.
