Sex in the Koi Pond

Ha ha, did you like the title of this post?? Love is in the water today! It’s been raining buckets in Minnesota and the koi pond has gained a few gallons of rain water.  Koi tend to spawn whenever there is a water shift and in early summer.  So it seems apropos that on the first day of summer (which also means almost 17 hours of daylight today), our koi seem to be exhibiting spawning activity. One koi is chased to the pond walls and through the plants … and then it turns into a buffet for everyone. It’s a good system since most of the koi fry will be unattractive mutts.
