The weather terrorists are forecasting lots of heavy snow tomorrow. I’m hoping for less than 8 inches and wish the post storm temperatures will not be as cold as predicted. We have drained lines, pulled up pumps, put away the pond stuff and generally gotten much of the yard ready for winter. We did a final large water change for the koi, put in some new lights and set up a little biofilter.
We’re still working on the pond’s partial cover. We are going to float a structure that resembles a pyramid. So think about the Louvre pyramid and that’s the effect I am hoping we will have in our pond. A better view into the pond and it will ensure the pond does not freeze up as much. It’s just some PVC piping and 8mil sheeting. We looked around for some polycarbonate but no luck.
The koi are still actively swimming day and night. Some of them continue to stick their heads into the skimmer box. At night the koi will hover around a light that gives us a little heat. We won’t be putting in a heater this year since we think the floating pyramid will create a little heat on the pond.
