Indoor koi land had a few hiccups including the loss of a koi…a doitsu kikusui named Crazy Horse. Crazy Horse should have been named Dumb A**. This koi decided to investigate the hole in the water tank that pulls the water to the filtration system. It stuck its mouth into the 3/4 inch hole and got stuck. Death by clogging up the system 😣

If that wasn’t enough, Zuzu decided to give us some drama by playing dead in the tank. Once moved into sick bay, Zuzu looks just fine. Keeping this koi in sick bay for a few more days.
The rest of the inside koi appear to be doing fine. Haven’t a clue how the 13 koi under ice in the outdoor pond are doing. Maybe in a few weeks, we’ll get a little warmup that will allow us to check them out. Meanwhile the pond digger is making plans for spring pond work. He’s going to make the large pond a little deeper on one end. While I think the pond is deep enough for all the koi to stay in next winter, he wants to be sure. We also need an easier way to maintain the koi over the winter. This winter seems to have been a little labor intensive…
