landscaping chores

I really do like gardening and picking out plants – I’m just not into the maintenance aspect. It always seems that as fast as I get one garden area weeded, another one has gone wild! I have a few more weeks of relatively warm weather before winter comes back. I’m cutting back many of the plants now even though they could probably wait another three weeks. Cutting back now helps me to see where the mulch needs to be put down so that I’m not looking at bare dirt until the snow covers the ground. The pond digger will need to get cracking on the covers for our equipment pits.
One of the reasons I've been cutting back the host is that they were damaged by a hailstorm early this summer and really looked horrible for the season. In retrospect, I should have cut them immediately after the hailstorm and let them grow back more nicely. There are a lot of hosta that has been moved out since the clumps multiply quickly.

One of my equipment pit that needs a cover. We hope to put up a pergola over this pond next year so the cover for this pit might be temporary.

I've lost interest in my moss project. I was growing large patches of moss on the rocks and it was looking pretty mossy last year. We redid the rocks for both waterfall streams this year and never got back to growing the moss on the rocks. Maybe next year.

All summer, my path was limited by the plants that grew out. I've cut them back but I may need to take them out next spring.

the little hillside garden has been overrun with creeping jenny. In fact, creeping jenny tends to run amok through much of the garden. It's very difficult to see all the succulents I put into this garden.

We're also in the process of putting down sod in all the areas we have torn up the grass. I am hoping that next year, we'll have less equipment damage since we should be doing minimal pond work.

We’re about three weeks into the acorn season
oak trees plus the little red squirrels equals a lot of acorns on the ground and in the pond 🙁
