Love is in the water…Momochan and Takuan have been exhibiting spawning behavior all morning so I took a closer look at the water plants. Plenty of eggs sticking everywhere. I really don’t want any pond mutts so I’m going to not feed the koi, hoping they will eat the bulk of the eggs in the pond. I harvested a number of eggs sticking to plant roots and want to see if they will hatch. Many koi offspring will come out deformed and ugly brown. The koi breeders have a culling process that seems a little heartless but practical. Even in the outdoor ponds, the snacking koi will take care of most of the eggs and some of the smallest fry. I am not expecting any new koi in the pond, but you never know!
