Moving koi, pouring concrete and gardening

Great weekend weather and we played catch up – pond builder has a lot of energy – here are some photos:

Pond builder’s major task this weekend was to pour concrete around the pond edge. We are replacing the natural looking flagstones to a wooden boardwalk. Nephew and friend were hired to move a lot of 60 pound bags of concrete to the backyard.

We moved some of the koi outdoors this weekend. Our friend, Michael Chang came by to help us. Koi club friends are the best!

The koi are enjoying their spring home outdoors.

This is Irene. Irene has been with us the longest, purchased as a little tosai from Koi Acres. As a tosai she was pretty dumb and three times we found he stuck with her head wedged into the rocks (this was when we had a pond with rocks 🤣). She is a very gently, friendly koi.

This little asagi was purchased at the Louisville Koi Show last year (Koi Acres). Funny red eyebrows on both eyes. The hi on this asagi is very symmetrical.

The pond builder brought home seven new emerald arborvitae since the line of five we had last year did so poorly. He planted them forward into the grass.

Dahlias tubers went in with some zinnia plants started from seed. The pond builder has been piling up soil in the new area and had two pallets of top soil bags delivered.

Started an asian herbs garden on the front porch this year. Have plenty of seedlings to have a second or third garden in another area.
